Have you seen the John Green videos about the French Revolution? If so, what do you think of them?
I have but I haven’t watched them in a loooong while and can’t really remember how I felt about them… anyone have input?
Is there anyway i can watch marie antoinette 1938 film online or download it from anywhere?
Not that I know of! If you’re looking for a cheaper copy, ebay sometimes has the DVD at a decent price.
What kind of dresses did marie antoinette wear while she was pregnant?
I haven’t been able to find out too much about this, but I’ll share what I know: Women in the 18th century would often wear their regular clothing “let out” according to their growing size during their pregnancy. There are records of “maternity” stays, which were laced differently and could be left looser than traditional stays. Marie Antoinette mentioned to her mother that she was not binding herself “as much” a few months into her pregnancy, so it’s likely she was using maternity stays rather than the traditional rigid court stays. According to Caroline Weber, the queen began to favor the levite during her first pregnancy—it was looser and less form fitting, eliminating the court panniers and whalebone bodice. However, it’s likely that the informal style of the levite meant that it would not be worn except for informal occasions. I can’t remember where I read this (if anyone knows, please share!) but there was an anecdote where the queen had to apologize to a visiting ambassador or other court guest because she was too pregnant to wear the grand corps (the fanciest of court panniers) which would have been considered a huge gaffe in etiquette.
