A series of costume designs for “The Royal Necklace”, 44 in all, ink and watercolour on card, for Marie Antoinette, Louis XVI, le Cardinal de Rohan (played by Frank Cooper), le Comte d’Artois, la Duchesse de Polignac, la Comtesse de Soucy, Madame de Rohan, la Marquise de Villefort, and others, the majority mounted on paper in unbound book form, 313mm. by 239mm.
Charles Bianchini was principal costume designer for the Paris Opera. The Royal Necklace was first performed at the Imperial Theatre in 1901 with Lily Langtry in the role of Marie Antoinette. The designs are anotated with details of the character, and the scene for which the costume was intended. In many cases there are different designs for the same character in two or more of the seven different locations.
