At first, no one dared tell the Queen it was a Dauphin, for fear of arousing too strong an emotion. Everyone around her held in their feelings so well that the Queen, seeing only constraint about her, thought it was a daughter. She said: “You see how reasonable I am. I have asked no questions.”
Seeing her anxiety, the King thought it was time to reassure her. With tears in his eyes he said: “M. le Dauphin begs to enter.”
They brought her the child and those who witnessed the scene say they have never seen anything so touching.
